5 Reasons You Should Stop Watching Porn

One of the cardinal virtues of the Stoics was temperance, which means moderation and restraint, as in behavior and expression. It is especially important to practice this virtue when it comes to pornography. Think about it, with high speed internet you are able to find a video in mere microseconds, climax within minutes, and repeat the process how ever much you choose. Do you really think it is natural to live like this? Unless you’re Genghis Khan, no. Porn makes anyone who watches it compulsive and many times even gets them addicted.

1. Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction used to be something that normally only affected older men well past their prime but now we are hearing many cases of it happening to men as young as 20. This is most disheartening because it seems that most who are affected by this don’t realize it until that are with a woman. Men seem to build a “tolerance” to sights and sounds they get from pornography so much so that they are not able to “get up” when the time calls. Which leads to the next reason you need to quit.

2. Sexual Tolerance

With pornography, men find it extremely easy to get bored of the material they started watching. Let’s say pornography used to be a relatively innocent habit for you as you started just watching softcore porn, this eventually led to hardcore, then maybe anal, and so on and so forth. Point is, porn eventually will lead you into watching things that you would never think of performing in real life. Which brings us to reason three.

3. Sexually Conditioned

If you started porn early enough you may have experienced this snowball effect as described in the previous reason. When this happens early enough it can be very detrimental because some men go so far to please themselves but after some time no more heterosexual material is able to make them climax. This is where neurotic homosexuality kicks in. Although this is rare it can happen and can even lead to more taboo sexual desires like abuse, bestiality, even pedo. If you are recognizing this pattern of moving from one genre to the next when it no longer pleases you, you need to do everything you can to stop now. I must say again though, this is very rare so do not be frightened when I say it can lead to this if you would consider yourself a casual viewer. You have time to quit without any harm.

4. Lower Testosterone

Many men have abstained from ejaculating in order to cultivate the energy they had. For example, Mike Tyson wouldn’t have sex before big matches and Muhammed Ali would abstain for six weeks prior to his big fights. It turns out that this was not just a placebo effect, a study showed that abstaining for 3 weeks slightly increases your testosterone. Another study shows that testosterone spikes 145.7% on the seventh day of abstinence. Now, I could separate these into two more reasons but since it is directly affected by higher testosterone I will say it here. With higher testosterone you will have greater connections and greater sexual relations with the opposite sex as well as greater improvements in the gym.

5. Tolerance to Dopamine

What porn does is release an insanely high amount of dopamine (the feel good chemical) in a quick burst. With these high amounts being released, we become immune to feeling the normal spikes of dopamine in our daily lives. Porn addicts have been found to have low levels of dopamine when they were not watching porn. Low dopamine levels are directly associated with low self confidence, depression, social anxiety, and much more.

Conclusion

This is something you need to try to quit now. Do not expect to succeed on your first try, many don’t in fact. It may take up to a year to finally accomplish, so since it is only January, why not make this a resolution. When you are attempting this, you will have a lot of pent up energy so make sure you are using it effectively or else you could seem irritable to others. Use this new energy to pursue any goals you may have. Many great men have abstained from ejaculation in order to fulfil their goals, Napoleon Bonaparte, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Oscar Wilde, William Shakespeare, and Abraham Lincoln and many others.   1. I think 5 is the most important. I think everyone slides into more and more extreme stuff. Look at ‘normal’ playboy stuff like 15-20 years ago, mostly just poses and porns I imagine were vanilla, now you have all levels of depravity that try to outdo each other.
